About DLShort

A free tool for keeping offline copies of short-drama episodes that already play in a browser — built and run by one person, with the limits written down instead of hidden.

Last updated: October 24, 2026

One developer, no company

DLShort is a side project, not a startup. There is no team, no investor, and no data business behind it.

Free, no account

Nothing to sign up for, nothing to pay, and no download quota. The tool stays usable whether or not ads ever appear on it.

Reachable

Write to about@dlshort.com. A human reads it. Rights-holder requests are handled first.

What DLShort is

DLShort is a web tool for keeping an offline copy of short-drama episodes that already play for free in a browser. You paste a series or episode link, it reads the public page, lists the episodes that page exposes, and prepares the media for you to save.

It runs in the browser and on a small relay. The relay fetches the public page and, for platforms that publish HLS, streams the segments through; the actual assembly and the file write happen on your device. Nothing is stored on the server after the request finishes.

There are nine platforms supported today, each with its own adapter, because each one publishes its page data differently. A generic scraper would break on the first layout change; a per-platform adapter that reads the site's own data is the only approach that keeps working.

How a download works, step by step

1. You paste a link. The relay opens that page exactly as a logged-out browser would, and reads the episode list the page already contains.

2. You choose episodes. Only episodes the page marks as unlocked and public are selectable. Locked episodes stay visible but cannot be ticked — that is a deliberate design choice, not a bug.

3. The media is prepared. Platforms that serve direct MP4 files are passed through untouched. Platforms that serve HLS get their segments fetched and joined into one MP4 in your browser, without re-encoding, so the quality and file size match the public source.

4. The file is saved. In Chrome and Edge the browser writes straight to a folder you pick once, so a twenty-episode series does not fill your downloads folder with twenty mystery files. Other browsers fall back to normal downloads.

What it will not do

No unlocking. Coins, paywalls, and premium episodes are out of scope. If the tool ever returned a paid episode, it would be a defect and would be fixed the same day.

No DRM. Encrypted or DRM-protected streams are refused rather than attacked.

No credentials. It never asks for a platform login, never accepts cookies for a site, and cannot act as you on any platform.

No re-encoding. Files are what the platform served, which also means no watermark removal and no upscaling.

No region tricks. If a page is unavailable from the relay's network, it is reported as unavailable instead of being routed around.

Who runs it

An independent developer maintains DLShort in their own time. The site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any short-drama platform; platform names are used only to describe which pages an adapter can read.

The infrastructure is deliberately boring: a static site on Cloudflare's edge, one small relay for the API, and no database. Fewer moving parts means fewer places for a bug or a leak to hide.

How it is paid for

Right now: out of pocket. There are no ads on the site today, no affiliate links, no sponsored placements, and nothing for sale.

Hosting a free tool that streams video is not free, so advertising may be added later to cover it. If that happens, the ad slots, the third-party cookies involved, and the consent choice will be published on the Cookie Policy page before any ad is switched on, and the Privacy Policy will be updated in the same change.

What will not change: the downloader stays free and unauthenticated, and nothing on the site will ever be gated behind a consent choice or a subscription.

Supported platforms and what you get

Each row is an adapter switched on in this build. “Direct MP4” means the platform publishes a finished file; “HLS → MP4” means the public episode is a stream that the tool joins into one file in your browser.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong — a supported platform that no longer works, a claim that overstates what the tool does, a broken link — send the correction and it will be fixed. Being accurate about limitations is the point; a tool that promises locked episodes would only waste your time.

Rights holders and takedowns

If you own rights in a series and want a page, an adapter, or a reference removed, email about@dlshort.com with the subject line "Takedown" and include the URL, the title, and a way to verify your authority. Requests from rights holders are prioritised and answered within three working days.

Adapters are removed on request without argument. There is no interest here in redistributing anyone's work — the tool exists for personal offline viewing of what is already public.

Contact

Write to about@dlshort.com. That address reaches a human inbox, usually within a few working days. English and Chinese are both fine.

To get a useful answer, include the link you tried, the platform, and what happened (an error message, a wrong episode count, a download that stopped). A report that names a specific series is far easier to act on than “it does not work”.

For anything about ads, cookies, or your data, read the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy first — they answer most questions faster than email will.
